Entry Requirements for Zanzibar. What You Need to Know Before Traveling to Tanzania?
Just like any other country in the world, Zanzibar has its own entry requirements. To avoid problems and complications at the airport, we recommend that you carefully review the current rules and requirements before your trip.
For citizens of Poland and Ukraine:
- To travel to Zanzibar, you must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival;
- A tourist visa (e-Visa) is required. It must be obtained B BEFORE your tripB online through the official Tanzanian portal. The cost of an e-Visa to Tanzania is usually around 50–100 U.S. dollars;
- Medical insurance is required. Starting October 1, 2024, entry into Zanzibar requires mandatory local insurance (Inbound Travel Insurance) from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC), which covers the entire duration of your stay for up to 92 days. ATTENTION! Having another international insurance policy does not exempt tourists from purchasing insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC);
- Confirmation of accommodation reservation (hotel);
- Additionally, tourists arriving from countries with a high health risk or who transited through such a country before arriving in Zanzibar must carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate*
Mandatory ZIC Insurance for Entry into Zanzibar
Starting October 1, 2024, all foreign tourists arriving on the island of Zanzibar by air or sea are required to have special travel insurance issued by Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC).
This requirement has been established by the Tanzanian government to enhance traveler safety and mitigate potential risks during their stay on the island.
Other insurance policies (from third-party companies) do not exempt travelers from the requirement to purchase ZIC insurance.
What ZIC insurance covers:
- emergency medical care;
- repatriation of remains (including in the event of death);
- accidents;
- legal expenses and attorney services;
- compensation for delayed, lost, or damaged luggage (provided the airline is liable).
